Parenting a young child with a medical diagnosis, disability, and/or atypical development can often be a new and potentially unanticipated experience for families. Working as an Early Interventionist at Waves affords Kate the gift of partnering with families early in their journey and connecting them with strategies and resources to help them feel empowered and confident in their ability to support their child(ren)’s growth and development—however that might look.
Professionally, Kate has been a member of the Waves Early Learning team since 2021 and has many prior years of work experience supporting children and adults with and without disabilities. Personally, Kate is the parent of an extraordinary son who was born with Down syndrome and whose authentic approach to life informs much of the way she views her work and advocacy. Like her son, Kate believes that all people with disabilities deserve equitable access, meaningful friendships and inclusion, neurodiversity-affirming practices, the freedom to be exactly who they are, and intentional supports to live joyful lives of their own choosing.
Through working at Waves, Kate hopes to help increase families’ confidence in building a solid foundation, setting their child(ren) up for success, and creating a lifetime full of meaning, hope, and opportunity.
